Password-protect a form

Only people with the password can open it, and wrong guesses are limited.

1 min readUpdated

Open the form's Settings → Security and turn on Password protection. Type a password of at least four characters and choose Set password. People are asked for it before the first question.

How long it stays open

Once someone has typed the password, the form stays open in that browser for 12 hours. Changing the password ends that for everyone, and they need the new one.

Wrong guesses

Each device can try 10 times in 15 minutes, and each form takes 200 tries an hour. Past that, people see “Too many tries. Wait a few minutes, then try again.”

Passwords set before 26 October 2026

Formkit now keeps form passwords more securely, so passwords set before 26 October 2026 stopped working. Settings → Security shows a note on each form that needs one. Until you set it again, people who open the form see “This form is closed for now: its owner needs to set its password again.” Set it again and the form opens as before.

Removing it

Turn Password protection off and anyone with the link can open the form.
