Partial responses

People who started and stopped, and what you can do about it.

1 min readUpdated

A partial response is one where somebody answered at least one question and left without submitting. Formkit keeps them, badged as partial with the number of questions answered.

Where they show up

Partials are excluded from the Completed count and from the completion rate, so your headline numbers stay honest. Use the All / Complete / Partial control to see them.

Resuming

Each partial has a resume link in its drawer. Send it to the respondent and they pick up where they stopped, with their answers still there. People can also email the link to themselves with Save and finish later.

Reminders (Pro)

In Settings → Responses, choose Remind people who stop partway. Anyone who gave an email address and did not finish gets one email with their link back, after the wait you pick. Never more than one. Say on your form that you may remind people.

Reading them as signal

A cluster of partials that all stop at the same question usually means that question is the problem. It may be too personal, too vague or too much work.
