The short answer

Google Forms and Microsoft Forms come free with the two big office suites. Most people use whichever their school or company already pays for. Here is how they compare, from each product's own pricing page and help centre, checked October 2026.

Pick Google Forms if you work in Google Workspace and want answers in Sheets. Pick Microsoft Forms if everyone is inside your Microsoft 365 organisation and answers belong in Excel. If the form goes outside your organisation and should carry your brand, Formkit does that for free.

Pick Google Forms when

the form is internal, the look does not matter, and you want the answers in a spreadsheet in the next five minutes.

Fast, familiar and practical. If you have a Google account you already have it, and for straightforward internal collection that is often the whole argument.

Pick Microsoft Forms when

everyone filling it in is inside your Microsoft 365 organisation and the answers belong in Excel.

Simple forms and quizzes built into Microsoft 365. If your school or company runs on Microsoft, it is already there.
